As part of the Sustainaware Summer School, we are organizing a free webinar that will take place on Tuesday, 5 July 2022, from 11:00 to 12:30 CEST.
The current rate of urban growth has reached unprecedented levels. Rapid urbanization poses enormous challenges, including increasing air pollution as well as inadequate essential services and infrastructure, alongside unplanned urban sprawl, making cities highly vulnerable to disasters.

In September 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It includes 17 sustainable development goals, comprising 169 goals, such as the eradication of poverty and hunger, the promotion of equality, the fight against climate change, and the establishment of peace and justice. SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) explicitly examines the role of municipalities in achieving sustainable development.
In light of the issues stated above, the Sustainable Cities Project aims to address the topic of urban sustainability. The initiative started in January 2022 by Lilla Judit Bartuszek, JD, who graduated from law school back in 2020. Right after her graduation, she started her PhD studies, focusing on sustainable urban development and sustainable communities, especially conducting her research from the public administration perspective.
The initiative Sustainable Cities Project focuses on the most relevant questions of local implementation of the SDGs. By joining this interactive session, you will also get the possibility to discuss the most pressing local sustainability issues and fill in the shoes of local government representatives for a day!
